Suratgarh Thermal Power Station and major defense stations help for a constant boost in economy of the city. Besides, there are many newly constructed cement production factories here that use ash from the thermal power plant. It accelerated the further development of the place.

Even though there are many industries and factories in Suratgarh, many people still find their household income through agricultural activities. Rice, wheat, mustard, guar, pearl millet and cotton are the major crops cultivated in Suratgarh.  Kinnu, a type of orange is the other main crop for which Suratgarh is famous.

Suratgarh Thermal Power Station

Suratgarh Thermal Power Station is an existing 1500MW megawatt coal-fired power station. It has won the award for one of the best-operated plants in the country. It is located 27 km away from Suratgarh town. The plant, which is operated by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Nigam Ltd, has 6 units and they can produce 250 megawatts each. The plant has received many awards. It received gold shield and bronze shield from Honorable President and Prime Minister for consistent outstanding performance during the years 2000 to 2004 and 2005 and 2006.

The construction of thermal power plant and its residential buildings help for acute growth of Industry in the city. The industry has been growing at a fast pace since then. Brick industries are also an important business here. Bricks are supplied to various parts of Rajasthan especially the districts of Jhunjhunu and Churu from the city.

Suratgarh Central State Farm

Suratgarh Central State Farm, which is the first effort of State Farms Corporation of India Limited (SFCI), is the biggest and largest agriculture farm in Asia. The farm was inaugurated in 1956 by the first Prime Minister of India, Late Jawahar Lal Nehru and he called it a symbol of resurgent India. The farm also got a remark from Mrs Indira Gandhi that it has shown us how human will and scientific ingenuity can make desert bloom.

The farm with a total area of 6296 Hect has 5694 hect of culturable area, 1452 hect of irrigated area and 4242 hect of rainfed area. Bhakra Canal system is the source of irrigation of Suratgarh Central State Farm.

The farm, just like other six farms under SFCI, set up with an aim of increasing the food production of the state. Major crops under seed production here are Moong, Paddy, Urd, Gram, Wheat, Mustard and Barley Oat.
